Help the community prepare for natural disasters

This co-design, research and prototyping project helped an international aid agency implement new solutions to prepare people for natural disasters in their community.

The problem

Aid organisations are excellent at responding to natural disasters - but what about helping communities prepare for them? Inertia and false beliefs around this are the norm and hard to shift, so how do we break through this?

The project

  • Ethnographic research in community on disaster preparedness

  • Academic and expert research into behaviour change

  • Prototype development with communities

My role

  • I led the Queensland part of the project from A-Z, collaborating with two researchers in other states

Deliverables

  • Insights report

  • Prototypes for preparing for natural disasters across different communities in Australia
