β€œThe way that you worked with our young students was just amazing. It has been such a valuable experience of learning for them, and all of us really. I would like to present your work as a State Showcase for how to engage with children, so all schools can learn from that.”

Client, School Principal

Co-design a school with young children, using play

This co-design, and research project with 160 young school children and their community created the blueprint for a new school.

The problem

Children are usually excluded from designing their environments - this project challenged that and brought them to the (design) table. But how to work with pre-literate participants? I developed a co-design game to include even the youngest children.

The project

  • Ethnographic research in community on how children learn

  • Design a co-design game that could be used for pre-literate participants

  • Co-design with 160 children and their community (parents, teachers)

My role

  • I led the project from A-Z, engaging a junior research partner

Deliverables

  • Co-Design game

  • Co-Design process with students, families and teachers

  • Insights report for the project and school leaders
