“Your approach was so thorough and surprising to us, and highly effective. We’ve now hired two qualitative researchers on the back of it, to keep the good work going!”

Client, Children’s Health Queensland

Increase hospital-in-the-home referrals

This project identified why the demand for hospital in the home referrals was low at Children’s Health Queensland, despite the service being popular with carers and children.

The problem

Quantitative data and analytics are critical for decision-making, but they only tell part of the story. Finding out why is better done with deep qualitative, contextual research, which is what I did in this project to solve the puzzle of low referrals.

My role

I led the project from A-Z, supported by a junior colleague and collaborating with the client’s innovation lead.

Project

  • A research and strategic design project that led the organisation from few referrals to full enrolment in the service today.

Deliverables

  • Deep insights report with a root cause analysis as to what was causing low referrals

  • Action plan and recommendations on how to address the problem, which was subsequently put in place and resolved the issue successfully.
